This is for the puppy owner that is busy but wants their puppy started right from the very beginning. Puppies are continuously growing, physically and mentally, which means their needs and requirements are ever changing. Setting a solid foundation from the very beginning can go far with puppies.
Our Puppy Foundations Board & Train is designed to set a solid foundation for you, the owner, to build off of. Allow a Professional Trainer to provide the consistency your puppy needs during their first few weeks, then your trainer will educate you how to continue this work at home so that your puppy grows up to be a model canine citizen.
Consistency is key when it comes to creating new habits and your puppy is no exception. Their bladders are small and attention spans are short, which means that the first few weeks can feel daunting during the training process.
The Puppy Foundations Board & Train is designed to focus on the most imperative aspects of raising a puppy. Our focus will mostly be on:
Crate Training
Potty Training
Spacial Management
Addressing problem puppy behaviors such as nipping, jumping and unwanted chewing
Confidence Building
Socialization / Exposure
Interactive Play Basics
Handling Drills for proper grooming and vet visits
Additionally, we will teach foundational learning concepts such as:
Clicker training
Shaping behaviors
Food luring
Intro to obedience (such as sit, down, loose leash walking, recall)
Engagement
Coming when called
Conditioned relaxation
Impulse control
While formal leash and off leash obedience is not included in this program, addressing these concepts will set your puppy up for a lifetime of success. We have a lifetime to teach fancy obedience skills, but how your puppy acts when they are not in an obedience behavior is what matters most. By letting our puppy grown and mature (physically and mentally) before we add in formal obedience, we can focus on the life skills that will proactively keep us from having to address problem behaviors or modify behavior down the line. Typically, dogs we see at an older age who deal with separation anxiety, hyperactivity, excessive barking, pulling/lunging on the leash, fear reactivity (towards sights, sounds, people or other dogs), etc were “just fine” as puppies, but did not have an adequate introduction to these life skills at an earlier age, which escalated into problem behaviors as an adult.
Your puppy will reside in your designated trainer’s home and be treated as one of our own. Training will take place in the home, as well as field trips to work on exposure, socialization and confidence building in a variety of settings (stores, patio visits, nature trails). We don’t have some huge facility, which means your pup gets personalized attention and a custom training plan catered to their specific needs.
While initial training is hands-off for you, maintaining the results won’t be, which is why your trainer will teach you everything you need to know to maintain your puppy’s newfound set of skills.
We pride ourselves on client education, so even though we will be doing the training for you, you will get plenty of educational opportunities during your dog’s training as well as after they come home.
We start your learning process by giving you lifelong access to our Virtual Learning Portal, filled with pre-recorded videos and PDFs covering a wide array of topics to address your needs. Additionally, your trainer will provide you with personalized video updates of your puppy with your trainer explaining the process so you can follow along the journey. At the end of the program, you will have a very extensive Go-Home Lesson with your trainer explaining the process and then coaching you through handling your puppy – this is both educational, as well as a skills assessment to ensure you can demonstrate handling your puppy through everything they have learned during training.
But the training doesn’t stop there…
Once your puppy’s Board & Train is complete, you will also receive TWO Follow Up Lessons to use for continued coaching. These are designed to be used no further out than 1-2 months from the completion of your puppy’s Board & Train. We understand that everyone learns at a different pace and some need more continued support than others, which is why we will support YOUR growth as your puppy’s handler, just as much as we guarantee the quality training your puppy has been provided while they are with us.
Other perks to our Puppy Board & Train program includes access to Vacation Boarding.
*Please keep in mind that this is not a formal obedience program, meaning that your puppy will need to complete additional training as they mentally mature for On and Off Leash Obedience.*
